If the fuss currently being made about Dubbya's attempt to save energy by making the US go to Daylight Saving Time a fortnight early reminds me of anything, it's the hype we had to endure eight years ago about the Millennium Bug. At the time, we were told that computers hard-coded to accept only 19xx dates would be crashing here, there and everywhere - quite literally, in the case of those aboard airliners. A slew of companies touted everything from expensive consultancy to PC patches. Much FUD was spread, and a fair bit of money was made. |

Nintendo Wii Holiday Sales Numbers Released |

Nintendo recorded the most successful across-the-board holiday performance in U.S. video game history.
The Nintendo Wii sold more than a million in just the 44 days between U.S. launch and year end. Every Wii available at retail was gone. The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess was purchased by an 86% of Wii buyers, or more than 900,000 games for that system alone. That is quite a sick success. Wii owners purchased an average of three additional games. Nintendo also sold 1.5 million extra Wii controllers. |

AT&T razes the Cingular brand |

AT&T is consigning the Cingular name to the dustbin of history. Its wireless operator will now also be known as AT&T. The telco kicks off a "transitioning" ad campaign on Monday and will also begin changing the livery on company buildings and vehicles. It's not saying how much this all costs, but the bill will easily run into tens of millions of dollars. |
